| History: | This is an early example of the Italian Cazzani Eb/D, manufactured approx 1920. This instrument was owned by Mel Broiles (1929-2003), former Principal Trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera for 44 years. I purchased it directly from him upon his retirement from the Met in 2001. Mel used this for the lighter operas, Mozart Marriage of Figaro, and for Haydn, etc., whenever he wanted a lighter sound. I have the letter from Mel verifying his ownership and history of the instrument which I will be glad to furnish a copy of to the next owner. Built in Eb, the instrument includes the shank Mel used to play it in D. It plays even better in D than it does in Eb |
