| Description: |
Bach large bore C trumpet, 25H leadpipe, 229 bell. Serial number 311213 (see photos). This trumpet is one of Laskey's first conversions. You will notice that the leadpipe is lowered on the 2nd valve to allow room for a more compact tuning slide. The braces are also somewhat more narrow than the newer instruments, and the leadpipe is closer to the valves. I tried to show this with the photos. This is in keeping with the attempt to model this instrument after the early Chicago Symphony C trumpets hand picked by Vincent Bach for Herseth and the trumpet section. You will see a rounded tuning slide as well. All of these modifications, Amato water keys, and other proprietary Laskey adjustments make for a more lively trumpet sound, better response and intonation.

Pitchfinder:
|
This is the Jack Holland pitchfinder and I put it on to accommodate tuning in the various orchestras I play in. Sometimes other players force you to adjust more than is comfortable with your lip. With the pitchfinder you can go any direction and it really keeps you from getting tired. It is an option that the German brass players use extensively. Check out the Amrein trumpets on this site. This pitch finder I transferred from an instrument owned by Mel Broiles who relied on it to help him during his 44 years a principal at the Met. The closeups show just how great a job Don Miles of Miles Trumpets did in installing. The pitchfinder also has a knurled nob that can be used to lock the slide in position if you remove the washer. The tuning is done with the knurled ring right next to the quick release hub.
